Fitrenin Ramazan ayı içerisinde verilmesi gerekirken bu sadaka olarak yapılan bir yardımdır. Fidye ise yine oruç ve hac ibadeti gibi dönemlerde kişinin yerine getiremediği bir ibadet sonrasında ortaya çıkan ve yapılması gereken bir yardım olarak bilinmektedir.

Bir fidye miktarı, bir sadaka-i fıtır miktarıdır ve ayette belirtildiği üzere bir fakiri tam bir gün doyurmaktan ibarettir. Bir gün ise 2 öğün olarak hesaplanır. Fidye vermek durumunda olan kişi, fidyenin karşılığını para olarak da verebilir.
