Şark çıbanı hastaları tedavi edilmezse ciltlerinde ömür boyu kalan izler kalır. Ayrıca hastalığı diğer kişilere bulaştırırlar. Bu nedenle tüm hastalar tedavi edilmelidir. Şark çıbanının aşısı yoktur.

Şark çıbanı nerelerde bulunur?

Dünyada belli iklim bölgelerinde ve daha çok Akdeniz ile Orta Doğu'da görülen hastalığa "Leishmania tropica" adlı bir parazit neden oluyor. "Tatarcık" ve "yakarca" gibi sineklerin bulaştırdığı mikrop, hijyen ve temizlik bakımından sıkıntılı bölgelerde hızla yayılma imkanı buluyor.
