Usturlap nedir ve ne işe yarar?

Usturlap, gök cisimlerinin özellikle de Güneş'in ve yıldız- ların konumlarının belirlenmesi ve zamanın ölçülmesi ile ilgili problemlerin çözümünde kullanılan astronomik bir alettir.

Genel kanaate göre Yunanlı bir astronom olan Hipparchos M.Ö 2. yüzyılda aleti keşfetmiştir. Astronom Nostulus ise M.S 771'de bilinen tarihli ilk usturlabı yapmıştır.
