Mercator'un 1568'de yaptığı ve kendi adıyla anılan silindirik projeksiyondur. Genellikle dünya haritalarında ve denizcilik amaçlı haritalarda kullanılır. Bu yöntemle yapılan haritalarda meridyen ve paraleller birbirini dik keser.

Konik projeksiyon, kürenin koni şeklindeki bir kağıda sarılmasıyla oluşturulan bir harita hazırlama yöntemidir. Bu yöntemle çizilmiş haritalarda şekil bozulur fakat alanlar korunur. Orta enlemler ve çevresindeki bölgelerin gösterilmesinde daha doğru sonuçlar verir.

Projeksiyon cihazını satın almaya karar verdiğinizde cihazın bazı özelliklerini incelemeniz gerekmektedir. Çözünürlük, ışık gücü-parlaklık, kontrast oranı bu özelliklerin başında gelir.
